NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING MEETING OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH

Public Hearing Notice – Proposed Revisions to the Upper Peninsula Environmental Health Code

The Board of Health of the LMAS District Health Department will hold a public hearing during its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will take place at 14150 Hamilton Lake Road, Newberry, Michigan 49868.

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive public comment on proposed revisions to the Upper Peninsula Environmental Health Code. If adopted, the revisions are proposed to take effect on May 1, 2026.

The proposed changes would incorporate the current Technical Manual to the Upper Peninsula Environmental Health Code and the Minimum Requirements for Alternative On-Site Sewage Treatment Systems Technical Guidance Manual into the Code. The revisions primarily address the construction and operation of alternative on-site sewage systems, including provisions related to variances for septic systems, privies, and water wells. These revisions do not change the authority of the Health Department.

Copies of the proposed revised Code are available online at:

Copies may also be obtained at any of the Health Department’s four district offices.
