Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS)

Caring for a child with special health care needs can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) is a program designed to support children and some adults with chronic health conditions and their families. Our goal is to help individuals access the medical care, support services, and resources they need to lead healthy lives.

CSHCS Provides

  • Coverage and Referrals for Specialty Services – We assist families in accessing medical specialists, treatments, and necessary services based on their child’s health condition.
  • Family-Centered Support – We recognize parents and caregivers as the primary decision-makers in their child’s care. Our program provides guidance, education, and resources to empower families in managing their child’s health.
  • Community-Based Assistance – Our services help families care for their children at home while maintaining daily routines and promoting independence whenever possible.
  • Culturally Competent Care – We respect and acknowledge cultural differences, ensuring that services are accessible, inclusive, and sensitive to the unique needs of each family.
  • Coordinated Care Services – We help bring together various healthcare providers, specialists, and community programs to create a seamless care experience for families navigating multiple services.

If your child has a chronic health condition and you need assistance in accessing specialized care, Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) may be able to help. Contact LMAS District Health Department today to learn more about eligibility, enrollment, and available resources. We’re here to support you and your family every step of the way.

How CSHCS Supports You

Caring for a child with special health needs can be challenging, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) is here to provide guidance, financial assistance, and coordination of care to ensure that your child receives the best possible medical support. Our program connects families with essential resources, helping them manage their child’s health condition with greater ease and confidence.

Through CSHCS, we assist families by:

  • Paying for Specialty Medical Bills – We help cover costs associated with specialized medical care, reducing the financial strain on families.
  • Coordinating Services from Multiple Providers – Managing a chronic condition often requires visits to multiple doctors and specialists. We work with families to coordinate appointments, referrals, and services for a seamless healthcare experience.
  • Helping You Find Specialty Providers – We provide information about experienced doctors, hospitals, and clinics that specialize in treating your child’s condition.
  • Coordinating Health Insurance Benefits – We assist in navigating health insurance policies to ensure families receive the maximum benefits available to them.
  • Covering Co-Pays or Deductibles – We may help cover out-of-pocket expenses, including co-pays and deductibles, so financial concerns don’t stand in the way of essential care.

Additional Family Support Resources

Beyond medical assistance, families of children with special healthcare needs can access The Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. This parent-directed program offers emotional support, information, and connections to community-based resources. Families can receive guidance on advocacy, education, and available services to better support their child’s unique needs. Children do not need to be enrolled in CSHCS to receive support from the Family Center.
