Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP)

Early detection is crucial in the fight against breast and cervical cancer. The Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP) offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings and assistance with follow-up services for low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured and meet specific income guidelines.

Services Provided

  • Screening Services: Eligible women can receive clinical breast exams, mammograms, pelvic exams, and Pap tests.

  • Diagnostic Services: If abnormalities are detected during screenings, BC3NP facilitates access to necessary diagnostic tests and consultations.

  • Treatment Assistance: While BC3NP does not directly cover cancer treatment costs, women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer through the program may qualify for a special Medicaid program that provides treatment coverage.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: Women aged 40 to 64 for breast cancer services; women aged 21 to 64 for cervical cancer services.

  • Income: Annual income at or below 250% of the federal poverty level.

  • Insurance Status: Uninsured or underinsured (insurance does not cover needed services or has high deductibles).

  • Residency: Current Michigan resident.

For detailed income guidelines, please refer to the Michigan BC3NP Program Income Requirements chart.

Importance of Regular Screenings

Regular breast and cervical cancer screenings are vital for early detection and successful treatment. By participating in routine screenings, women can identify potential health issues before they become more serious. BC3NP aims to reduce barriers to these essential services, ensuring all eligible women have access to the care they need.

Early detection saves lives. About 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

For cervical cancer, the risk is 1 in 45 without vaccination or screening—but with regular screenings and vaccination, the risk drops to 1 in 532.
